Question :
Is it right to have a bf at young age?
Answer :
Right purpose
When we decide to commit for life-long partnership.
We should only date if we have intention to marry the other party. It is then fair to say that we should not date if we have no intention to get married.
Remember to practise safety in the multitude of counselors(ps.,youth leaders)
-proceed only with the consent from both parents and spiritual helpers(unless what they advised are against Scriptural principles,
see Joshua 1:16-17.
Then they answered Joshua, "Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as He was with Moses.
A couple can decide to get married when the relationship is tested and proven via serving together.
The people promised to obey Joshua because he followed God and God was with him.)
Wrong purpose
Not out of love
To have a bitter life for our own selfish gain
e.g Solomon married for political gain.
Pride
To show off to friends, treat the partner as a "display window". Not to be left out but want to feel accepted.
For sexual grafitication
Outside of marriage- sexual fornication and pleasure is SIN. God intended the sexual act for those who are MARRIED ONLY.
Hebrews 13:4
Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
Social pressure
Succumbing to social pressure from parents or friends or close relatives. This is ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR ASIAN WOMEN where it is a social stigma if they were not married after a certain age.
To have FUN
Just want to have relationships on a temporal and seasonal basis. Not interested in long term commitment and in the responsibilities of handling a relationship.
TWO HELPFUL QUESTIONS
Is it most beneficial?
Ask whether what we have decided is most beneficial for the Kingdom of God. If we devote ourselves in God's purposes, we will always get the best from God.
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:32
He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all-how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?
Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Psalm 37:4
Delight youself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Is it practical?
At the same time, apply some practical common sense tests.
1) Financial Readiness
2) Timing
IS it the right timing? Sometimes, when we are too eager to start a relationship, we may make a mistake of confusing our inner needs with God's timing.
3) Maturity Level
Will we still be able to put God first? Are we sufficiently mature in age and emotions?
